Hand-colored map; with decorative border of these two cities; the reverse with illustrated advertisements for Henry Stoney, Manufacturer of Rich Cabinet Furniture NY; Richmond House Hotel Chicago; and W.O. Jenks, Window Shade, Paper Hanging and Curtain Emporium, NY. Map printed for use in Colton's uncommon Advertising Atlas of America 1857. American companies used this atlas as a vehicle to promote their businesses. The atlas made use of the same maps used in the 1855 printing, with many of them having that imprint date. Richard Swainson Fisher authored the accompanying geographical, statistical and historical descriptions. Approx. 14" x 17 1/4" overall size; Some edge-toning and age to the paper; side margin with old discoloration; a little spotting and print offsetting; in good condition. Note: Shipped rolled for safety.
