An English language version and the first American edition of this work by the Comtesse de Genlis, Stephanie-Felicite du Crest de Saint-Aubin (1746 - 1830) French writer and educator, who early on was motivated by a "...determination to remedy her incomplete education, and to satisfy a taste for acquiring and imparting knowledge... the better to carry out her ingenious theories of education, she wrote several works for their use...(and) anticipated many modern methods of teaching..." (Enc. Brit. 11th ed.). Previous owner name on title page of Rev. Silas Ketchum, Bristol N.H. and with his bookplate on front endpaper; along with a deposit slip from the New Hampshire Antiquarian Society. Approx. 4 1/2" x 7" size; bound in polished calf leather, gilt spine titles & decorations, marbled endpapers, covers with roll-tool gilding. Some edge, tips wear & rubbing to the boards; some soiling & staining to text; in about good condition.
