130 pages; illustrated with black and white portraits of Bronson Howard (1842 - 1908) American playwright, "...usually heeded the advice of producers on how to make a play work better on stage. He believed that a play’s value was primarily dramatic, not literary. One of Howard’s chief concerns was the development of writing plays as a profession rather than as a sideline of actors, producers, or "men of letters." In 1891 he founded and became the first president of the American Dramatists Club (later the Society of American Dramatists and Composers), which successfully lobbied for reform of copyright laws to put an end to script pirating..." (Mary C. Kalfatovic in the ANB) Inscribed on the front endpaper to one of the members of the Board of the A.D. Club, J.J. McCloskey and dated in the year of publication. Printed at The Marion Press.
