Lithograph enhanced by light coloring, printed by the Kellogg brothers; made from the portrait silhouette artwork of W.H. Brown, being one of the works from his Portrait Gallery of Distinguished American Citizens. Henry Alexander Wise (1806 - 1876) was a Virginia congressman, governor, and Confederate general, "...the quintessential Virginian, widely loved and deeply hated. A man of many contradictions but, as Simpson calls him, "a Good Southerner," he had been true in his own mind to Virginia and his deepest principles, including independence, loyalty to state and family, and courage..." (Michael B. Chesson in the ANB) Approx. 12 1/4" x 15 3/4" size overall; a little edge-wear & darkening, in good condition.
