Osgood, 1878. 413 pages, index; "Household Edition"; tipped-on front endpaper Whittier poem "May" from newspaper, also laid-in article about the Exxex Institute, dated 1907, tipped-on the next blank endpaper is poem "A Song of the Vermonters. 1779" from another periodical, tipped-on the next page is a clipping of an illustration depicting the farm home at Haverhill where Whittier lived as a boy, another humorous anecdote recounting an autograph-hunters' approach to the poet at Nahant, a clipping of the poem "Massachusetts", the "Vow of Washington" and at least a 1/2 dozen more clippings and articles regarding Whittier laid or tipped-in the rest of the volume; original publishers' green cloth, gilt decorated and titled; some edge, tips and spine ends wear; former owner book ticket, former owner inscription, back hinge splitting; good condition and intriguing for all the laid-in ephemeral material.
