1882 Letter Signed with Related Ephemera, From Phelps, Dodge Co. 11 & 13 Cliff Street, New York Regarding the Resolution of a Bankruptcy and Payments

F A letter dated Feb. 14th, 1882 on Phelps, Dodge & Co. letterhead, acknowledging payment of a debt:"...We congratulate you on your late success in business and also upon the very honorable way in which you have paid indebtedness from which you were legally released...." signed by J. Van Veick for the company. Approx. 8 1/4" x 10 1/4" size, (with) checks affixed at side edge made to the McAnerney & Co. and to Phelps Dodge Co.; (with) a printed sheet dated in ms. 1879. This is a notice regarding the insolvency of John McAnerney and Henry St. George Offutt, the firm of John McAnerney & Co. and its assignment to Bentley D. Hassell for the benefit of the creditors, of which Phelps, Dodge & Co. was one. Witnessed by T.J. Sanson & Phelps, Dodge Co. with a small red seal and also a rubber stamp 'in liquidation.'
