The title article, on education and its aspects, a 'Lecture Delivered before the Richmond Lyceum, on the 13th of May, 1839, by James M. Garnett, Esq.' Other pieces including 'Shiel the Irish Orator', poems, extracts and book reviews. OCLC indicates P.D. Bernard as printer and that it was a short-lived publication, this being the final issue of three only; it's precursor was the 'Richmond Lyceum'. L.R. Streeter, the editor, was also a contributor of a poem to this issue and of a lively, opinionated commentary-review regarding controversy between the author Paulding & Nathaniel P. Willis. Approx. 5 1/2" x 9" size, formerly side-sewn, now come undone and disbound. Light wear, faint old damp-discoloration, foxing, old binding stab-holes; in very good condition.
