The original edition, with the portrait frontispiece of the author; including material regarding the First Settlers of Southold (the first thirteen families) & Orient L.I., a useful index-like table of contents, with the page numbers relating to specific names, events, places, and more. With several previous owner names and signatures on the front endpaper, going back to the publication date. Approx. 5 1/4" x 7 1/2" size; bound in the original dark brownish-plum decoratively blind-stamped cloth, gilt spine titles (dulled and faded). Some rubbing and wear to the boards, spine cloth ends chipped away; some old spotting, bumping to tips of covers; blank endpaper excised at front and at back; portrait darkened, as is usually found with this book; occasional spotting and foxing to leaves.
