With some hundreds of small poems by the author gathered in this edition. John Brown Gordon Coogler (1865 - 1901) prolific American poet from South Carolina. Approx. 4 1/2" x 6 1/4" size; bound in the original publisher's dark green cloth hardcover, gilt cover & spine titles. Light edge, tips wear to the binding; in very good condition. (With) Tipped-in at the front endpaper of the poetry volume is "The Wreck of the Monticello. November 9th, 1900. By A. Edwin Belyea, (Aged 16) St. John, N.B." With a color illustration on the cover of the wreck, drowning people, lifeboat; followed by 2 pages of poetry on the disaster, and some reviews of this juvenile work. Approx. 4 3/4" x 5 1/2" size; light wear; old fold line at fore-edge, which enables it to fold into the Coogler volume; in very good condition. "Only four miles from its destination of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, the ship City of Monticello was dashed against the rocks in the Bay of Fundy, with the loss of 31 lives."
