F 44 pages; the book with black and white illustrations of representative examples of these structures of the past, accompanied by explanatory text, giving location, source of information and pertinent history of each; the authors acknowledge in the Foreword that "...This booklet does not purport to be a complete inventory of all one-and two-room schoolhouses extant in Suffolk and Nassau counties. Rather, it is representative of a number of old schoolhouses in various parts of our Island..."; with a useful map with references for the locations of the schools and a guide to same; over 50 schools listed, mostly in Suffolk county; approx. 7 3/4" x 10 3/4" size; stapled illustrated paper covers; some tips wear; little bit of paper clip residue at top of front pages; in very good condition and a good reference to Long Island preservation & architectural history, especially schoolhouses & education; (with) attached to the front cover is a plain envelope with previous owner notations, containing 3 black and white photographs, identified as: Swan River School Roe Ave. E. Patchogue; Nissequogue School St. James; and Nissakeag School Museums at Stony Brook - these appear to be the same as the photographs used in the book, albeit much clearer and with far better detail than those printed; old paper clip indentations at top of photos, no loss; in very good condition.
