F (9) separate advertising broadsides, printed one side + 2 additional smaller leaflets bound-in; including a black and white tri-fold illustrating buildings owned by Watkins, including the Winona plant, the branch at Montreal, Quebec; Watkins plant at Oakland, Calif.; the "Watkins City" composite view of offices-factories-branches; the Memphis, Newark, and Winnipeg Canada plants and the branch at Vancouver, B.C., with text giving the history of the company, established in 1868; (with) two sheets devoted to the comparative grades of spices packaged by Watkins, with those of lower grades, including cinnamon, ginger, vanilla; another page illustrates the superiority of the Watkins Washing Compound showing an 'experiment' that reveals "...it jellies, proves that Watkins Washing Compound is a concentrated soap..."; Also urging an experiment to test the veracity of Watkins Baking Powder in another sheet; yet another is a composite showing "An Ensemble of Beauty for Every Woman's Needs" - after bath dusting powder, bath salts, deodorant powder, cleansing cream & more; Another cartoon-illustrated sheet depicts the advantages of the direct to the home Watkins Way of retailing, compared with the more usual manufacturers -wholesalers-retailers chain of selling; with two 'certificates' with gold seals: one a 'certification' of the Watkins products; the other a 'sample policy' or agreement between Watkins and the American Housewife, a guarantee of the products; A sheet also delineates The Watkins Dealer's Creed; the two additional pamphlets are 4-sided 5" x 8 1/2" approx. (folded); Watkins Big 3 tooth paste, tooth brush & mouth wash, illustrated; and a similar illustrated 4-panel for shaving cream, talcum, after shave, scalp tonic, other men's items; the group is not dated and internal evidence indicates 1930s; bound in the original brass-brad post-bound stiff textured olive green paper folder, decoratively printed in black and red; approx. 9" x 11 3/4" size; some edge, tips wear to the binding; contents clean and in very good condition; interesting sales and promotional literature for this still-extant company, in the past few years moving from direct sales to the retail approach; also of interest is the use of science and experimentation and bringing in the near-religious 'creed' to promote the products.
