Philadelphia: George Bacon, 3 pages of sheet music with lyrics; an early American edition of the famous song, no date and circa 1820s - George Bacon the publisher of this piece left Philadelphia shortly afterward and re-established his music printing business in New York City; lyrics credited to John Howard Payne (1791-1852) American author and actor, "...his musical play Clari (1823), adapted from a ballet, further assured his fame because among its songs, with music by Henry Bishop, was "Home Sweet Home," a constant of the theater, concert hall, and parlor into the twentieth century..." (David Grimsted in the ANB); a good impression, imprint and music, lyrics very clear and boldly printed; no covers, apparently disbound from a larger group of music, with the remains of edge-sewing on left margin; some browning to edges, foxing; in good condition.
