Creech at Edinburgh, 1774. vii + 434 + 1) page errata at back; Alexander Gerard (1728-1795) philosophical writer and professor of natural history and divinity in Scotland and of some reputation for this book as well as his Essay on Taste. (DNB); previous owner name on title of Greville Ewing (1767-1841) Congregational minister and scholarly publisher of Greek, tutor at the Glasgow Theolgogical Seminary 1799-1836 (DNB); and what appears to be a presentation inscription to a MD, in the same (Ewing's) hand, partially erased; ABPC indicate 2 copies at auction in the past 27 + years; endpaper at back with faint pencil portraits of side-view busts of a couple of men, in 18th century garb; original full leather binding; both boards detached and very worn, as is the spine covering; no endpapers or half-title leaves at front; title page edge browned; text block split at about the 1/2 way point in the text; occasional light foxing dot here and there to text, still fairly fresh and clean; good condition and a good candidate for rebinding; with an interesting provenance.
