1929-1947 Collection of Ledgers and Related Ephemera for Roy A. Class, Contractor Plumbing, Heating, Electric Wiring Sheet Metal Work Union Ohio
(Roy A. Class, Contractor)

Union Ohio: Roy A. Class, Contractor, 1929. Three ledgers, with laid-in singles and groups of related invoices and notes for this Union, Ohio building contractor; each ledger with at least 100 pages of manuscript written material, listing names of clients, payment history, exactly enumerated lists of work ordered and accomplished, prices broken down item by item with much detail, including labor costs & pricing, day by day hourly counts, with worksheets showing calculations for costs; at front of these ledgers are the thumb-indexed sheets with the lists of the company's clienits; perhaps most interesting is the amount of business being done here during the Depression years and into the World War II period; evidently this company had a solid and viable system, with commercial and public clients as well as private individuals using their contracting services: Board of Education, Berger Lumber Co. Concil of the Village of Union, Church at Pleasant View, Trustees of Polk Drive Parsonage, Odd Fellows Hall, Miami Conservancy Co., Holland Baking Co., Milky Way Farm, Board of Public Affairs, Englewood Tool Shop, M.E. Parsonage, Ohio Fuel & Glass Co., Valley View Inn; we note that the writer of the ledger has also put down the dates, amount received (about $ 71.00 per month) of the monies they have received from the Social Security Admin., carrying to 1960, the writing hand having become slightly wobbly in older age; All ledgers hardbound standard accounting books; some edge, tips wear to cloth; some old residue from paper clip deterioration on pages; in very good condition overall and very interesting business and contracting, building industry history for this mid-America small town during the Depression and World War II years.
