Text in French; with a laid-in notes-slip in pencil. Joseph Adhemar (1797 - 1862) French mathematician and scientist, primarily concerned here with the periodic changes in climate, glaciations and yearly shifts of the earth's orbit that caused these changes. The title page of the plate section with a printed paper slip pasted-in over the publishers names: Librairie Scientifique de F. Savy. Title page of the text section with the small owner name-stamp of collector George R. Brush M.D., U.S. Navy; in service as a surgeon & medical inspector, from 1861-1894. Approx. 5 3/4" x 8 1/2"size; bound in green marbled-paper covered boards; green morocco leather spine; gilt decorations & titles, patterned-paper endpapers. Some edge, tips wear and rubbing to the boards; spine leather surface chipped a bit, base of bottom spine compartment scarred and darkened; text block & plates clean and in very good condition.
