The theories of Pierre Thouvenel (1745-1815), French doctor who supported controversial hydroscopic medical techniques and who was exiled to Italy; he was briefly the personal physician of Louis XVIII upon that monarch's return to France after the Revolution. Previous owner name or abbreviation at top edge of 1/2 title pages; two of the title pages also with the faint, small previous ownership stamp of collector Dr. George R. Brush, U.S. Navy; his naval career service was as a surgeon and medical inspector from 1861-1894. Approx. 5 3/4" x 8 1/4" size; bound in blue marbled paper covered boards, dark brown leather spines with gilt ornaments & titles, marbled endpapers. Some edge, tips wear and rubbing to the bindings, spine end of Vol. 3-4 bumped; contents with only the occasional blemish; leaves very clean, fresh & in very good condition.
