Of interest is the red watercolor outline of a journey by an (unknown) traveler, with the trip-line starting in the Caribbean in the north and extending around the coast of South America; with a land excursion to St. Paul (Sao Paolo); then inland again at the coast of Paraguay, to Buenos Ayres, St. Iago (sic) in Chile and north again to Lake Titicaca; a side journey to Guamanga and then back to the sea voyage at Callao, stopping at Guyaquil, to Bonaventura, Panama and on northwards. Map was published in the Gentleman's Magazine, by Thomas Jefferys (c. 1719 - 1771) British engraver, cartographer, and publisher, "...remembered in particular for some of the most important eighteenth-century maps of the Americas...the leading map supplier of his day he was a principal figure in the emergence of London as an international centre of cartographic enterprise..." (Laurence Worms in the ODNB) Trimmed right to the neat-line; approx. 23.5 x 25.5 cm size (9 1/4" x 10 1/8") Paper darkened and with holing at top margin; in good condition.
