The towns served in this district at the time were Town of Brookhaven and Township of Islip; with 11 (eleven) issues of this yearly directory. From the publisher's Foreword: "…a mine of information regarding the local schools…names of faculties, their colleges, subjects taught, their mailing addresses…names of trustees and members of boards of education and other school officers are given with their addresses and terms of office. Assessed valuations and tax rates are given…also interesting data relating to attendance and the growth of the schools…" This information is supplemented by illustrations in black and white - portraits of teachers, principals, graduating classes, students, schoolhouse architecture, interior & exterior views and more. The final issue here numbers 80 pages; the first with 26 pages; they average 50 pages or so per year. The publisher-editor includes histories and illustrations of school buildings in each issue, concentrating on particular institutions in each issue. With the bookplate of Long Island historical writer and collector Kenneth Charles Brady on the front endpaper. Approx. 6" x 8 ¾" size; a modern brown "leatherette" binding with the original colored stiff paper printed covers bound-in. First couple of issue covers edge-taped, worn; a few names and marks on covers further in; otherwise, clean and in very good condition. A good collection of Long Island historical and educational materials for this Suffolk district area; useful information for genealogical and architectural preservation.
