Circa 1910 Twelve Interesting Pictures of the Dutch East Indies

Soerabaia, Dutch East Indies: Helmig & Co., 1910. F. A group of twelve gravures, printed in dark sepia on heavy cream paper stock, with titles in Dutch & English below the image, as well as the Helmig & Co. Soerabaia copyright. The images include: Batik Women Djocdja, Cutting Sugar Cane, Lake of Klakah, Crater Lake, Boeroeboedoer, Crater of Bromo, Planting Rice, Tapping Rubber (Old Style), Pottery, Bromo in Eruption, Transporting Sugar Cane - all Java images; and one Bali image, Water Carriers. Not dated and circa 1910. Approx. 10" x 12 ½" overall size, with a bit of edge, tips wear. The images are sharp and of very good quality: the indigenous people at work, volcanic eruption and scenic views are particularly remarkable. Our research indicates that the images came in a simply titled folder (not present) with these twelve gravures as complete. At time of our cataloging, OCLC indicates one institutional holding of these images, at Cornell. Item #26442
