1866 Signed John T. Hoffman Mayor of the City of New York

New York, NY: Not Published, 1866. F. Partially printed & filled in manuscript Salary as Assistant Docket Clerk County Clerks Office order for Isaac T. Brown. From the County Treasurer of New York, at the Broadway Bank, signed by the Mayor, John T. Hoffman (1828-1888) born in Ossining in Westchester County and was governor of New York (1869 -1872), judge (elected 1860) and Mayor of New York (1866 - 1868). Supposed involvement with the Boss Tweed Ring ruined his political career; Hoffman was the last to-date Mayor of NY City also elected as Governor of the state. Counter-signed by the city comptroller and by Brown on the back of the check. Approx. 3 3/4" x 8" size; including a nice bit of job-printing: a good woodcut vignette and ornate corner ornaments around the edges, printed in blue tones by A. Brown & Co. Nassau Street. Light wear, darkening; with the old-style 'x' cancellation-cut, unobtrusive, one small spindle hole. In very good condition, interesting City of New York political history ephemera. Item #26431
