(10) + 24 + 12 + 12 pages of text; followed by 75 + 4 plates (these 4 designated as 'a' plates, with their accompanying number) for a total of 79; printed one side only; the author has set out his presentation in 3 parts: Orders of Columns, including various temples and important monuments of antiquity; the Orders of the Renaissance, arches, arcades, doors and windows, facades of buildings; and the Third Part which is "...concerned with the development and the decoration of rooms, and takes also into consideration, in this connection, the exterior of buildings so far as it corresponds to the conformation of the rooms. The subdivision of rooms into various categories according to their style of roofing and membering has also been touched upon in this Part...the importance of the architectural forms derived from Greek architecture, in their decorative employment in Roman and modern Italian buildings, is discussed, and in connection therewith the gradually progressive development of the architectural idea in the structure of the exterior and in the conformation of the room is traced in its essential features..." (from the author's Preface); the plates, which include many detailed figures each, were drawn by Buhlmann and printed by Robert A. Welcke Photo-Lith. N.Y.; there are also some photographic images, also printed by Welcke; approx. 13 1/4" x 17" size; previous owner name of architect Charles L. Nutt, N.Y. on front endpaper; bound in the original printed gray paper-covered boards, gray-blue buckram cloth spine and corners; some edge, tips wear and darkening to the binding; couple of short (1/2") closed tears, one or two spots in the contents; otherwise, very clean and in very good condition, a good classic architectural reference, with much explanatory depth to the text.
