Item #21515 A Nest for the Phoenix. Joy Walker White, Joy White Ubina.

A Nest for the Phoenix

Fort Worth, Texas: Author Typescript, 1969. F. 121 pages; typed one side; type in black; with corrections and additions in pen throughout, mostly of a minor nature; the play takes place in the mid-1960s in Dallas, Texas and has a multi-racial cast of characters; the script has been edited to change 'colored' to 'negro' in order to reflect a sensitivity to the changing times; there is dramatic tension between hippies, black youth, well-meaning wealthy whites and the interplay of the sexes; the title page notes this as "A rewrite of original play by Joy Walker White" - which appears to have been written in 1960, this the 'rewrite' of 1969, with both copyrights noted on the title page; an OCLC search does not reveal any publication of this title by these authors; bound in the original plain stiff paper covers, typed paper cover label; 'wing-clip' style; some edgewear, aging to the binding; contents with some page-darkening; in very good condition; interesting period theatrical piece in typescript.
