F. 128 pages; inscribed and signed "To Percy Hammond with cordial regard Otis Skinner 1912" on the front endpaper; this play was the most famous role which the versatile Otis Skinner (1858-1942) American actor-manager, played to great effect, and even carrying it forward into film; inscribing to Percy Hammond (1873-1936) American newspaper column theater critic, of some influence at this time; bound in the original gray paper covered boards, paper title label on spine; light edge, tips wear to boards; in very good condition, and an interesting American theater history item and association; in the ANB, William Stephenson writes, "...Skinner's greatest success was yet to come. In Kismet (1911), a classic of romantic drama, he played the rascally, clever beggar Hajj, who goes from rags to riches to rags again in a single day, marrying his daughter to the young Caliph and murdering the evil Grand Vizier along the way. It ran a year in New York and three years on the road. The part, which Skinner's daughter writes was "longer than Hamlet and more strenuous than d'Artagnan..."; the details from the stage production-players, dates, etc., are given as well as the text of the play.
