Original Film and Audio Recording of the Television Show Person - To - Person Jan. 23, 1959 CBS-TV Edward R. Murrow Interview of Genevieve (Ginette Marguerite Auger)

New York: CBS Television, 1959. Comprising two items: 1. A 16 mm film of the show, in the original metal canister labeled "Positive Release Print Program Person to Person CBS Television Film Service Operations...Serial Number 59 01 23 Genevieve" and also with some Air France labeling; evidently the film had gone back and forth to France at some point; in the original black cloth heavy covered sleeved slipcase, also labeled on the outside, with two rows of "Person to Person..." cloth tape black on red and a printed label: "Person to Person CBS Television 485 Madison Avenue New York" and with the address of Genevieve 414 E 52nd St. NYC Fleet; (with) Item 2. A 33 - 1/3 RPM 'Microgroove' recording by TV-Time Recordings of White Plains, New York with a paper label with the company's logo and typed information: "Genevieve Edward R. Murrow Person to Person Jan. 23, 1959 CBS-TV" recorded one side only, the other unpressed; 10" approx. size of disc, in the original clear plastic sleeve, in a generic, somewhat humorously logo-printed TV-Time Recordings record sleeve, having "Genevieve" inserted on label at front; Condition: the film appears unwatched, with the leader and a few feet examined and seemingly in good condition, do not seem brittle; the record does not appear to have been played; the covers for the film have some wear and abuse, from travel; the album cover with some aging; otherwise, in very good condition and we predict the contents will convert to other formats if necessary; Edward R. Murrow (Egbert Roscoe Murrow) (1908-1965) pioneering American broadcast journalist, "...when American television journalists are asked to rank broadcasters, Edward R. Murrow's name is always first. He achieved international acclaim in his almost 25-year career. With each development of broadcasting from radio through television and during major international events, Murrow was there..." (Betty Houchin Winfield in the ANB) interviewing Genevieve (Ginette Marguerite Auger) (1920-2004) French comedienne and actress, famous for her 'Parisienne' and gamin acting-up on comedy shows, Jack Paar's Tonight Show, Ed Sullivan Show, "...toured in Cole Porter's "Can-Can" and other stock productions, and "worked the big rooms" in New York City when she wasn't appearing with Paar and, later, on "The Merv Griffin Show." She also toured with a one-woman show, "An Evening with Genevieve..." (from the obituary Dennis McLellan, Los Angeles Times 2004); we must assume Murrow had some fun with her, as he did with many of his guests on this famous celebrity talk show, perhaps the origin of this media genre. A note on provenance: This item was purchased from an Easthampton estate many years ago; 'Genevieve' was a long-time resident of the town and most probably had her own copy of the show given to her by CBS.
