A good likeness in colors of The Earl of Dufferin ; lithographed from a photograph "...by Fradelle and Marshall, Regent Street"; with a facsimile signature below; paper 8" x 11" sheet approx. overall; Frederick Temple Hamilton-Temple-Blackwood, first marquess of Dufferin and Ava (1826-1902) British diplomatist; "...the first governor-general to be installed with jurisdiction over the vast territory from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Ably assisted by his wife, he set himself to make the governor-generalship a centre of public interest. He entertained lavishly, travelled incessantly throughout the dominion, and spoke on every possible occasion, encouraging Canadian pride, and promoting Canada overseas...the most popular of nineteenth-century Canadian governors..." later Viceroy of India and holder of many important ambassadorial and government posts.
