Jonah and the Whale Miniature Linoleum Cut By Martin Silverman

A wonderfully-depicted scene, very skillfully accomplished by this New York artist (Silverman was b. 1950, and his works are found in permanent collections, corporate and private, across the U.S.); with a nautical and ancient biblical theme, Jonah falling out of the ship, the whale ready to gulp him down, spouting at head, storm clouds raging, crew on deck panicking, holding their arms out to their falling crew member; image size approximately 1 1/2" x 3", matted, framed and glazed and backed; unexamined out of frame; title in pen in the artist's hand on back, along with her address stamp from Greenport residence; the Beebe family were prominent members of Southold Township's social community and were Sponsors and Donors to the Town's Tercentenary in 1940; Rachel Beebe was purpotedly a student of Greenport artist Whitney Hubbard and other art instructors of the twentieth century on the East End; this piece is numbered 21/50, titled "Jonah and the Whale" and signed Martin Silverman in the lower margin of the image, dated 9/19/1966; very early in his artistic career, in his teens and exhibiting remarkable talent; some edgewear to frames' finish; a great biblical action image; in very good condition.
