Entries handwritten on (19) pages; dated from May of 1917 to July 1919. Evidence from the pages of a variety of items made by the American Red Cross volunteers in this east end village and sent to the French and Belgian war front hospital & refugee relief effort: surgical dressings, bathrobes, shirts, pajamas, mules, unbleached bandages, cup covers, pillows, shirts, socks, foot covers, slings, gauze compresses, wipes, rolls, hospital shirts, fracture comfort pillows, many-tailed bandages, property bags, refugee skirts, shawls, sponges, pads, comfort bags, helmets, hand & bath towels, handkerchiefs, blouses, pinafores, boys' undershirts, mufflers, mittens, sweaters, operating gowns, afghans, stockings, Christmas bags and more. The details include the numbers of items made and sometimes the sizes; also noting the weight of the items sent in total and the various centers for on-shipment, including Camp Upton, New York City, Southampton Hospital and Newark. A small laid-in scrap note with the penciled notation, "Sent in $2715.15 - $ 2793.15 pledged" on A.A. Tuthill Pharmacy Quogue, LI. Rx notepaper. Back page also lists The Laurel Hospital White Rock NC, Mrs. Geo. H. Packard and Frances L. Goodrich in Ashville NC; this hospital was founded in Madison Co., by Frances L. Goodrich and Mrs. Packard's husband, Dr. Packard & closed in 1932; the connection, if any, with the Quogue ARC is unknown. Book approx. 4" x 6 3/4"size, illustrated thin cardstock covers, cloth spine covering, mostly worn away. Pages darkened some, cover creased, corner clipped at bottom front; handwriting clear and in good condition.
