A finely-printed promotional item for this piece manufactured by the silversmiths of Gorham, recreating the famous salt with seal owned by Lord Byron, the company claiming "...fidelity to the delicate original which is in their possession. The replica is made in crystal cut glass, with sterling silver mountings; and the base, which is of solid silver, is left plain for the incision of any family crest, coat-of-arms or monogram that may be desired. A few of the bottles are silver and gilt, and some are made with solid gold mountings...a charming and poetic souvenir...its mere use cannot but touch with a magic spell any scene or any hour..." Printed in muted rose-maroon tones and with small illustrations throughout; the text extols the prestige of ownership. (7) pages; the colophon notes that the booklet was printed by Bartlett & Company Designers Engravers Printers New York. Approx. 4 7/8" x 6 7/8" size, protected by a plain, somewhat dusty envelope; printed on pinkish color-complimentary heavy, textured paper. The titles and accompanying design deeply incised into the paper, resulting in a pleasingly tactile, letterpress effect. Slight wear to the promotion itself; in very good condition.
