Dated March 3rd, 1888; 3 pages; typed on State of Indiana Office of Attorney General offices letterhead, handwritten "Private" at the signature. Letter is regarding the candidacy of Benjamin Harrison for President and hoping for the support of Ford & the Irish World readership. Harrison's qualifications are thoroughly extolled in the first 2 pages; the final page notes that "...In him and in his history there are reasons for his candidacy which I think will appeal strongly to the judgment of every liberty loving Irishman..." and listing his antecedents, including "...William Henry Harrison who fought and whipped the British in 1812, and in his day was the typical American citizen. In the General Harrison of to-day dwells the same feeling which prompted the men I have named to take firm stand against the oppression of Great Britain. He has never been a copyist in action or belief of the British aristocracy in any degree, but he has at all times stood and spoken in favor of Irish liberty and Home Rule. No Irishman in this State has occupied a more advanced position on that subject... express the hope that you will see your way clear to give him the advantage of your support..." (signed) L.T. Michener (1848 - 1928) Lawyer, politician, and public official from Indiana who was also Harrison's campaign manager.
