Rashbrooke and tipped-in at back a large folded facsimile of the letter of General Lee to General Gates Basking Ridge 1776; tipped-in at front is a letter signed by the author, 2 pages, addressed to Joseph A. Copp, D.D., written from the Library of the New York Hist.l Soc. New York City Jan 31 1865, regarding a paper that Copp had read before the N.E. Hist. Geneaological Society concerning General Lee and hereby sending him a copy of (this) book with the hopes of entering into correspondence: "...I shall be very glad if any new researches, or the application of the most rigid principles of historical criticism shall enable me to change the views which I have expressed-for I truly desire the vindication of the truth of history in all such studies and investigations...I am perfectly ready to acknowledge my errors, if they are pointed out to me..." and respectfully asking for a continuing look at the evidence that Copp may have in his possession; George Henry Moore (1823-1892) American librarian, historian, bibliographer, very active in work of New-York Historical Society 1941-91, superintendent of Lenox Library, New York City.
