Approx. 120 pages, about 1/2 of which have entries of some kind; well-wishes of the graduating class and from instructors and the heads of this school: Eastman Business College of Poughkeepsie NY was founded in 1859 and was a well-known commercial business college having emphasis on practical working experience; the students listed here were mostly from the American northeast, with a sprinkling from southern and slightly more western states; one gentleman from Porto Rico and also with 3 Japanese students, K. Saito, Tokyo; F. Fukui and K. Nakamura (who states his address as Boston) - these three all adding Japanese characters along with their English well-wishes; with 37 photographs, portrait stamp format; 33 of these in the 1" x 3/4" size, 4 (2 pairs) are of 2 3/8" x 1 3/4" size - these identical two pairs are of the President of the College, C.C. Gaines and his wife; photos by C.H. Gallup Poughkeepsie New York, with their identifier in the images - and also with the sitters' name; there are a few 'doubles' of the smaller photos as well; the title page with two engravings, one atop the other, of the school, gates and grounds and with the calligraphic titling "Southampton F.H. Corwith L.I. N.Y." with elaborate flourishes in the middle of the page; there are about 10 pages with other calligraphic work, some of it very well done: especially a full page rendering of a bird on a tree branch, complete with foliage and hatching to express the woods' texture, tiny finely-drawn and charming winged insect and spider-and-web figures; several of these good pieces are signed by L.C. Lloyd, one of the instructors at the school - his specialty listed as 'Telegraphist'; the 'centerfold' of the album has a group of the instructors' stamp portraits, tastefully arranged in circles around the President and (opposite) Mrs. Gaines, with their titles and function hand-written with a fine tip beneath the image and with fancy flourishes and decorations around each, along with a lined border; course teachers in Theory, Type Writing, Stenography, Correspondence, Banking, more; there were at least two women teachers; towards the back is a very nicely titled "We are the boys from Long Island." stretching across two page-tops, with outlining and highlighting in red along with the usual flourishes; there is one page with a pair of doves, having the scroll work below, "Home Sweet Home" and several other pictorial calligraphy examples, one a hawk or eagle with banner in beak; bound in the original 'leatherette' limp leather covers with gilt titling; covers very worn and spine partially split away, separating; contents with some offsetting from the photographs and artwork inks, some of the tiny photos with some rubbing and scratching; generally contents in very good condition and an interesting keepsake album with photographic and calligraphic ephemeral appeal.

6 sepia-tone photographs; particularly poignant, of men in military garb helping another man obviously injured, along a planked way - which lead back to a troop carrier ship at dock (identified only from the funnel number '23' - a masted steam-sailer, single funnel visible midship) - bystanders watching the movement; (with) another image having several cloth-covered ambulance wagons, with a group of women and men in attendance, giving out aid to the soldiers, workers helping unload; (with) a great image of the Camp Wikoff main 'street' - dirt covered, wooden temporary buildings and water tower, to right a building with the words "Long Island Express(?)" just visible, man cleaning street garbage, horses & buggies, more; (with) a mess-tent outdoor scene, man working at the pots and pans; (with) another view of covered wagons, having heavy going through the shoreline's sandy soils with their loads; (with) a photo of a stern paddle-wheeler, evidently one of the transports of some sort (no name visible- this image blurry); images 3 3/4" x 4 5/8" approx. size; evidently this event, the quarantining of Spanish American war troops at Camp Wikoff in Montauk in 1898, was of great local interest; over 300 female nurses were at one time employed at the camp; no photographer or studio noted; images with a little edgewear; in very good overall and interesting U.S. military, Spanish American War, Montauk Long Island history imagery; Camp Wikoff hosted 29,000 soldiers including Theodore Roosevelt and the Rough Riders at the conclusion of the Spanish-American War, to quarantine for fevers and other tropical diseases before the troops could be sent to their homes.

Over 75 good black and white images photographed after the disastrous 1938 Hurricane which hit Long Island and New England; images approx. 3 1/2" x 5 1/4" or 2 3/4" x 4 1/2" format; images including people investigating houses with entire sections suspended in mid-air with no foundations or support; street scenes with trees smashed flat to the roads and sidewalks; tide water in front of the old Bonwit Teller at Job's lane and other long views of the streets in Southampton town; greenhouse structures flattened, panes of glass nearly all gone; costly seaside dwellings ruined, collapsed along with submerged automobiles; church destroyed and gutted by the raging seas and tide; scenes of interior carnage and destruction in homes, nearly nothing recognizable as human habitation, mere stacks of scrap; workers uniformed in white sanitation outfits attempting salvage of debris; deeply eroded cuts through the landscape, streaming with garbage and storm wrack, river-like flows through a formerly placid scene; homes and fancy clubs crushed flat to the point of only the roof being left, pitiful human beings wading through the new streams and observing the wreckage, trudging to higher ground; old dockage areas absolutely devastated, debris caught behind old pilings as so much scrap wood; several pictures of homes literally flattened to a flat, pancaked pile of junk; homes with half the exterior walls gone, exposing the inside as if in a horror-story doll's house; automobile nearly buried by a falling tree; another street scene where there is so much rubbish and leaves, dirt and branches, wood and accumulation of waste that it is impossible to see the road; people digging, observing, trying to salvage material everywhere; aerial views taken from a biplane (struts and wings visible) show the immense destructive change to the physical landscape on a huge scale, water, sand, eroded soil visible for miles; contained in an old photo album, with side string gone and wear, pages loose; photos with light wear, often, easily popping off the backing with no residue; images generally in very good condition; an interesting 1938 Long Island Hurricane weather, meteorology history and photographic imagery of storm damage; many hundreds died in this hurricane, thousands of homes and automobiles were destroyed and the damage toll ran into the billions of dollars.
