135 pages; illustrated in black and white with the brilliant photographic work of Bourke-White; the photographer signed and inscribed the book on the front endpaper to "Corliss Lamont...With my sincere regards Margaret Bourke-White"; Margaret Bourke-White (1904-1971) American commercial photographer and photojournalist (this was her first book) &  Corliss Lamont (1902-1995) American humanist, philosopher, civil rights activist; an association copy between one of the most famous humanists and one of the most important photographic artists of the twentieth century, both of whom had long-standing relationships with the then-Soviet Union and awareness of political and social controversy; some wear and darkening to volume cloth; in very good condition.

18 pages; with a photograph by Ansel Adams, signed by him in pencil at the margin lower right; a limited edition of 60 copies, this being # 24; signed by G.D. Merner, who commissioned the volume, dedicating it to Flodden W. Heron "...in appreciation of a Stevenson Night given by Mr. Heron before the Roxburghe Club of San Francisco...";  (from the colophon page): "...privately printed for Garfield D. Merner...by Cecil and James Johnson at The Windsor Press, San Francisco, set in Goudy Antique type...The photograph of the Stevenson Memorial was specially taken for this book by Ansel E. Adams..."; finely printed on unbleached Arnold watermark paper; the Adams photograph is printed on a heavier, matte-finish photographic paper stock, the image being approx. 5  3/4" x 7  3/4" on a 9" x 12" sheet-the photograph has offsetting from the facing page's text, giving a 'lined' appearance to the image, especially in reflected light; hand colored title page & preliminary ornament; Anderson's story speaks about the Memorial, Robert Louis Stevenson and the history of the architecture of the area and of San Francisco; bound in gray cloth, printed paper paste-down cover label in black and green, with floral ornament; in a matching linen-covered protective cardstock slipcase; some edge, tips wear to case, old stain on back; volume very clean and in very good condition, well printed and an early Ansel Adams (1902-1984) photographic effort, he being about 28 at the time of this photograph's printing.
