Every document concerns a particular insurance concern including: 1856 Office of the Continental Insurance Company, No. 18 Wall Street , (signed by) John Street president; 1863 Washington Insurance Co. 172 Broadway, printed by Nesbitt & Co. Prinrters and Stationers Pearl and Pine Sts. N.Y.; 1865 Office of the Jefferson Insurance Company on a property at 13 Mulberry St. and another for 1866, with Revenue stamp; 1866 Exchange Fire Insurance Company of the City of New-York, also for 13 Mulberry, nice sidebar ornament; 1873 Importers & Traders' Insurance Co. for bonds & mortgage insurance; 1873 Phenix Insurance Company; 1879 The Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York; most of these pieces about 3 1/2" x 7 3/4" average size, a few larger and a couple smaller;(with) an 1860 Clinton Fire Insurance Company ppolicy against loss or damage by fire of a Hotel, Dancing & dining establishment in East New York, with a woodcut large illustration of Clinton, backgroudn scene of canals, railways, cities & countryside, signed in the plate by Jocelyn & Purcell, about 17" x 10 1/2" size, four sides and detailing the arranments of the insurance; 1877 another Clinton Insurance item, this with Clinton engraving by American Bank Note for premises at 551 & 553 3rd Ave. "...with hazardous occupation and dwelling...", giving the list of hazards (printed on integral page) and the rates of premium each attracts; These two documents with splitting along old lines; light wear; very good condition and an interesting glimpse at the inner workings of New York City Insurance and finance history, through ephemeral paper evidence, with the additional interest generated by the evidence of many of the city's nineteenth century job printers' work. We include one other policy on The Jefferson Insurance Company, 1865 for 13 Mulberry Street, printed by Arthur, Gregory & Co., Stationers that has a section excised from the front page, with loss, may have been done in cancellation of the agreement.
