Album with 44 photographs, mostly albumen process, with a few matte-finish black and whites and one color postcard image at back; Including: a very good photo of the construction of the entrance of the Blackwall Tunnel; a handsome Victorian-style home frontage, named "Grasmere," possibly after Wordsworth's home; haying grounds and countryside images, what appears to be groups rowing on the Thames and bucolic country scenery; a dramatic parade scene, horse guards trotting down the cobblestoned avenue, onlookers - perhaps at the visitation of royalty - the crowd rather somber; several of inner village or town scenes, trade buildings, clock tower in the square, decorated streets; several sea-side images, which may be from St. Leonard's or Hastings - including beach scene with lifeboat station, a wooden sail-boat, identified as the 'pleasure-yacht' Albertine of Hastings, more; these images bearing close resemblance to the photographic work of George Pearson and his step-son William Weeks Pearson, especially some of the sea-side pictures - since these are very professional-looking and may have been part of a series of souvenir photographs by one of these photographers or another photo-artist in the area; the postcard at back offers some possible clues as to the original owners, depicting the Esplanade in Ryde on the Isle of Wight, postally canceled, dated 1904 and addressed to Mrs. Gunton of St. Leonards-on-the-Sea Sussex, from "S.D. T.", staying at 1 The Friars in Ryde; in the original album, each photograph 'window-mounted' and unexamined out of them; each image 3" x 4" (sight); some with fading; several with extraordinary clarity of focus on the imagery, either a very good amateur or professional work; bound in red cloth, with gilt cover title; some edge, tips wear and rubbing to album; contents very good and an interesting photographic record of this time period in coastal and rural England, from the latter part of the 19th century.
