1827 Manuscript Document Regarding the Court of Special Sessions Conviction of Stephen Murray an Indian for the Offense of Petit Larceny

Hempstead Long Island New York: 1827. A court document manuscript, stating in part: "...a court of Special Sessions for the trial of Stephen Murray an Indian for the offence of Petit larceny (as is said) by Stephen Murray on the 20th December inst. do certify....that the said Stephen has been this day duly convicted of said offence and...be imprisoned in the common gaol of said county for the term of thirty days... (signed) Luke Covert Anson Higbie Samuel Willet Justices of the Peace"; with the documenting information of this Record of Conviction on back, filed in 1828; with the original three wax seals, including their diamond-shaped paper covers; 8" x 8" approximate size; light browning along old fold lines; very good condition and an interesting Long Island history ephemeral item, along with being of some historical note regarding Native Americans and how they may have been treated in criminal courts in New York State in the earliest part of the 19th century.
