Queens Long Island: 1868. C. 200 pages of manuscript church reports, records followed by the details of the Queens County farming business of the Bergen family; volume begins with alphabetical list of church members with names: Baylis, Bennem, Cornell, Collison, Carpenter, Bergen (many), Dickerson, Dean, Horsfield, Herrick, Harrington, Hendrickson, Kellogg, Kissam, Maccrum, Mitchell, Martin, Prink, Remsen, Richardson, Suydam, Simonson, Tomkins, Terahan, Valentine, Wiggins, Van Nostrand, Wade, Williams, Whitmore, Wood, more, with following pages detailing each member's history with the church, dues paid, how much & when and notes- ie. "Expelled" "resigned", more, mostly between 1868 and 1872; followed by a several-leaves section concerning the "Treasurers Acct. of the Reformed S. School of Queens" which extends from 1885-86 detailing expenses-Christmas wreaths, Board of Foreign Missions, Domestic Missions, something called 12 Mile chest, Brooklyn Hymns, 300 book covers, and much more; the farming accounts are from 1886-1892 and give information on hay sales, individual accounts with the farm and people; folks paid for tasks, amounts owed, seed, equipment and crops bought and sold, more; with a few other notes and letters laid-in; all written in good legible hands, mostly regarding receipts and information concerning the Bergen farming endeavours; some farming 'receipts' for -buttermaking, "to keep hens healthy", rule for selling locust (wood), plowing information, other farming 'hints' of 19th century America; on last leaf is a set of instructions in a mid-19th century hand for the dance "Lancers" with all the steps written out; 8" x 12 1/4" approx. format; some wear and rubbing to covers, detaached, spine perished, mostly still bound as one; few leaves at back lacking, torn out; good condition and interesting Long Island church and society, farming & business history for New York & Queens County.
