1787. 2-sided Eighteenth-century manuscript quitclaim or release for lands owned by William Durrell, Merchant of New York, to Joseph Townsend & Daniel Youngs of Township of Oyster Bay, Queens County in Nassau Island State of New York, executors of the estate of Benjamin Birdsall of Oyster Bay; dated 8th day of January 1787; 12 1/2" x 7 3/4" approximate size; with the names of Edward C. Colwell, Wm Talman, witnessing, William Durrell signing the document, with the original paper-covered red wax seal; accomplished in a very legible hand in dark brown ink, chain-laid watermark paper; Oyster Bay local historical figures of note, Townsend & Youngs families given extensive mention in Mather's opus genealogical work, "The Refugees of 1776 from Long Island to Connecticut"; a Birdsall family member was a Long Island writer and local historian of note; light edge, tips wear and darkening to leaf, old repairs on fold lines on back; very good condition and interesting.
