(Steel Industry)

New York: Underwood, The images strong and clear, with ore cars on tracks, employees, a ghostly image of the furnace and smoke in the background, the other image with the glowing bar of steel lighting the interior of the works in Pittsburg, the "...greatest steel-producing city of the whole world..."; back of mount cards give a couple of paragraphs of information regarding the history of the industry and the specific site, more; the first card is very interesting photographically, as the photographer had to go through some heroics to get the shot, "...had to wait nearly two hours, ready at any instant to touch the release of the camera shutter, before the dense smoke rose...Most of the time the atmosphere, even down near the ground, is full of heavy smoke..." photographer identifier at side of mount, not dated, title on backs in six languages; earlier, 'split-image' type of views, two separate photos; a couple of identifying numbers: a large "S 120" & "80" (middle) & "S 121" at top right; the numbers 5520 & (80) 5523 are at the title bar position at the bottom of the right-hand image; light wear to card tips, edges; very good condition for both. Very Good (Item ID: 13395)
